Nameday!

Greetings to the world!

Or the nice people who will actually read this...

Let me tell you a secret... Well, it might be a secret to people who aren't of a Latvian origin. Today is my nameday! Mine and another 13 000 women whose name is Inese. But nevertheless! I must say that you people without such a thing are bereft of a very nice opportunity to party... :-(

Hmmm... I will try to explain how this works. For the beginning i looked into Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary but that does not reflect the occasion as it is celebrated in Latvia. Since we are not (well, that's my personal belief) that Christian so we don't celebrate any saints (although that's what the Russians do). We have it spimple - every day in the calendar there is one up to four names written to it. So on the date you see your name in the calendar you celebrate your nameday. Mine happens to be on May 18. I share it with Inesis and Eriks.

Some sources show also the names not included in the calendar. That is also how I found Stan's nameday. It's not officially in the calendar but it could be celebrated on August 27. So people don't forget to send an e-card to Stan! ;-)

Anyhow, that's all from me, feels quite odd to post on a weblog that isn't my own. :D
