Homesick
One of the things I hoped to find out while living here in Brussels was to know if and when I would become homesick. I successfully visited my family for a weekend in March. Had my mom over for my birthday. Yes, both were nice but neither of those made me homesick. It turned out that all it took was a couple of days in Berlin with Susanne. The lillacs were in full bloom and the smell reminded me of my parents house. We went to the botanical gardens where the greenhouses smelled just like the ones my mom works in and irises bloomed just like in front of my parents' house. And there were the most perfect meadows for making Midsummer's eve daisy wreaths… I guess what made it all the more sad was the awareness that it will never be the same because I just don't live there any more. From now on I will always be only a guest there…
Posted by Inese at May 29, 2006 01:47 PMA dear friend of mine once told me that always and never are two words we should always remember never to use. Life in most cases is a long adventure so who know's what it still has in store for you?

Posted by: spoxy at June 8, 2006 05:13 PMIn my experience, home is not a place in the location sense. Home is something in oneself, that can be reached by thought (remembering) and feeling (eg. one can feel @ home with someone) and is carried in the soul.
In regards to locations that 'feel like home' one can look at it like this: one can go home to all those places that one requires in life through travelling (which I consider a luxury :-)) either in the mind or physically. And because of the sense of home see the more so the beauty of those places... because one carries the memories. After all one can only miss what one loves..... and to be able to love... and realize it... is bliss, no?
